CarTender approached MB Creative struggling to get registered users, and in need of a partner that would help build and grow their brand. After lots of strategy work, we decided CarTender needed to be redesigned & rebuilt from the ground up. Together we worked with CarTender founder Patrick Marion to gut & rebuild the entire web app and website, while spending countless hours adjusting the pricing & business strategy.
MB Creative worked for several months closely with CarTender, helping to define their new pricing & business strategy, and to design and develop their new innovative, aesthetically engaging web application and website.
In 2017, we received a request from a Toronto based car price comparison startup to redesign and develop their web application from the ground up. After intensive discovery, strategy work, and budgeting, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.
A beautiful, dynamic web application that saves a lot of backend work & time internally, with a new pricing & customer acquisition strategy, accompanied by a corporate site with engaging illustrations & animations. An overall massive success.
Led by MB Creative's Director of Strategy Matt Balshin, the team sat down with CarTrender's team to map out a strategy and plan. The goal was simple: to help CarTender become successful. Throughout a fun, engaging single day strategy session, Matt was able to work with CarTender to fully understand and define the CarTender brand, define the customers we're trying to target and prioritize goals moving forward. As per usual, this strategy workshop proved to be invaluable. It allowed us to understand and determine ways we could help CarTender achieve their goals.
In order to help CarTender reach their goals we first needed to understand the audience we wanted to capture. From a general standpoint we're targeting anyone looking to lease, finance or buy a car, in search of a more convenient & user friendly way to do so. Our target age group is between 24-59. This group would represent anyone able to get a new car & tech saavy enough to understand the app. Our target location was people in Ontario, Canada. We did extensive research to fully understand who we were targeting; their wants and needs when searching for a new car. We knew people were starving for a more convenient way, but it took time to understand what the majority felt would bring them more convenience.

Understanding CarTender's position amongst their direct and indirect competitors and a thorough understanding of the target audience allowed us to prioritize goals to position CarTender as the go-to place when searching for a new car.
Through a few different stylescape options, MB Creative worked with CarTender to define their new brand identity. A vibrant new colour palette starting with a gorgeous cream colour, accompanied by vibrant, strong colours like purple, red and green to convey CarTender's fun, creative spirit. For fonts we used Work Sans - an authoritative font with a trustworthy voice represented CarTender perfectly.
CarTender allows you to compare prices for unlimited car models & trims. Simply select a car and add it to your selection. You will then be able to see all the trims associated with that car through graphs and other visual data. View detailed pricing history charts for any vehicle. One of our favourite things to do is design custom illustrations. It's a process that starts on paper with brainstorming and sketching. Concepts are taken to the iPad to be sketched in before landing in Adobe Illustrator to add colours, shadows and all the final design touches that truly bring these exquisite illustrations to life.
Our graphic design team pulled out all the stops with illustrations for the CarTender corporate site and web application. A magnificent effort over several months resulted in illustrations and motion graphics the CarTender team and their users are drooling over.

The Brand guideline, also known as a brand style guide, governs the composition, design, and general look-and-feel of CarTender's branding. Dictates the content of a logo, illustrations, website, marketing collateral and more. This brand style guide will dictate all future design decisions by CarTender.
We designed a web application that we are confident through testing will be loved by the masses. Forget about visiting multiple car dealership websites to collect and compare prices. Simply select the cars you are interested in and view the prices, along with the price history for each car trim so you can save time and money on your next car. We had so much fun working on the design of the new web application and redesigning the brand.

The CarTender project proved to be an extremely successful project from the jump. As soon as we launched the new web app, traffic spiked dramatically and users for the first time began engaging with the app. Our design & development team really knocked this project out of the park, delivering a user experience unmatched by any price comparison web applications.
